Ed’s Two Knees (National Guard Knee Replacement)
An interview with Ed Bard (Two Times X10 Alumnus)
Air National Guardsman, Ed Bard, has two knees… that got a bit worn over the years in deployments to Bosnia and Iraq in addition to regular duty. He used the X10 to 1) solve a tough right knee replacement recovery in 2016, and 2) make it a quick recovery for his left knee in 2019.
The results:
- With the X10 Ed solved his difficult TKA (Total Knee Arthroplasty) recovery after a Manipulation Under Anesthesia in 2016. It took about three weeks of X10 time. Ed learned a lot from his right knee surgery and recovery and adjusted his pre and post surgery recovery program accordingly.
- For Ed’s left knee he prepared for his surgery with a few months of pre-hab. It took about 19 days on X10 for Ed to get full range of motion while maintaining his strength.
About the Air National Guard
Maryland Air National Guard units are considered to be Air Reserve Components (ARC) of the United States Air Force (USAF). Maryland ANG units are trained and equipped by the Air Force. They are operationally gained by a Major Command of the USAF if federalized. In addition, the Maryland Air National Guard forces are assigned to Air Expeditionary Forces. They are subject to deployment tasking orders along with their active duty and Air Force Reserve counterparts in their assigned cycle deployment window.
As state militia units the elements of the Maryland ANG are subject to being activated by order of the Governor. They provide protection of life and property, and preserve peace, order and public safety. State missions include disaster relief in times of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and forest fires. Additionally they provide search and rescue, protection of vital public services, and support to civil defense. (Source: Wikipedia)
