About Our Conversation
I asked Jeff about his decision to undergo knee surgery, to which he explained that he started experiencing sudden knee pain that hindered his ability to walk, exercise, and participate in activities he enjoyed. Jeff initially tried non-steroidal medication, ice, and physical therapy, but when these methods proved ineffective, he underwent an MRI that revealed a lack of cartilage in his knee. Various surgical opinions and injections were attempted, but ultimately, Jeff decided that surgery was the best option to regain his mobility. I ask about Jeff’s decision to choose a particular surgeon. Jeff shares that he was confident in the surgeon’s technical skills and their explanation of the options available.
Jeff’s surgeon, Dr. Robert B. Kohen. explained that a bone-on-bone condition and inflammation were identified through an MRI scan, presenting the choice between partial and complete knee replacement surgery. The pros and cons of each option were thoroughly explained. Jeff opted for a partial knee replacement due to the faster recovery time. Jeff also mentions receiving calls from various companies offering post-surgery care medications and devices, initially feeling overwhelmed but quickly understanding their purpose. Jeff said that he felt well-prepared and informed before the surgery. Additionally, Jeff highlights the placement of a percutaneous anesthesia catheter and praises the complete pain relief it provided.
Dr. Gladstone Used the X10™
Walking without pain and using the X10 machine for range of motion exercises were made easier with the anesthesia. Jeff expresses gratitude for Dr. Kohen’s knowledge of the latest technology and resources. The conversation then focuses on the speaker’s experience using the X10 machine for rehabilitation after knee surgery. It enabled Jeff to work towards regaining range of motion without relying on narcotic pain medicine. He appreciated having a coach to guide their progress and prevent overexertion. They emphasize the gradual increase in range of motion and the ability to track progress in real-time during each session with the machine. Jeff achieved full flexion within eight days and regained muscle strength over time. The effectiveness of muscle strength and pre-surgery preparation is highlighted, as well as the positive results of using the X10 machine.
In later parts of the conversation, the importance of staying motivated, taking consistent actions, and maintaining belief in the recovery process are discussed. Jeff encourages individuals suffering from limited mobility and pain to consider knee surgery as a viable option. Sharing success stories and inspiring others become significant factors in promoting a positive mindset.
